At U/S we don’t buy the idea that building a “cruising sail” means building a slow sail. This misconception stems from the big sail companies who plug cookie cutter designs into their cruising sails; It helps them churn out the sails faster. We on the other hand build sails with all the custom options you can dream up. Plus, we take the extra time to design highly efficient 3 dimensional shapes into each sail. The venerable cross-cut dacron sail is by far our most popular choice for cruisers. We use this type of construction for virtually all of our Bay and Coastal Cruising customers with boats up to about 45 feet. Woven Dacron has long been the standard for Cruising Sails. No other sail cloth will match the longevity of Woven Dacron. Our Coastal Cruising Sails are ruggedly built and available in a variety of styles.

For extended Offshore Cruising as well as Charter Boats we use a beefier set of construction parameters that we have developed as our set of Bluewater Specifications.
These specifications that we use on all offshore cruising sails are unusually high. The sails are heavily reinforced and constructed with premium cloth.

Large Warp and Fill yarns are tightly woven and finished with a process that produces a cloth that is friendly to the hand (easy handling) and extremely durable as well as highly resistant to abuse and sun degradation. When you head offshore these sails will be prepared for anything that Mother Nature can hand them.
